Blow me down! They did...and Neil Carter stepped into the drum seat for teo years before leaving to concentrate on his studies. He now lives in Germany. He and John Forrester brought enormous enthusiasm and freshness to the band and after a wild, slightly unrehearsed introduction to playing speedy folk music it was obvious that we had to keep going! Johnny Forrester contributed front man skills as well as bass playing and singing. He is a great songwriter and now has his own band plus solo albums, also on TWAH! (ST) |
A publicity photo for our first tape release in 92. Imogen Gunner had joined us by this time on fiddle and an appearance by Phil Udell on juggling which by this time had started to become a feature of our gigs. (ST) |
On our first tour in Germany we'd played an East Berlin night club and Damian met a man who said he was an agent. By a bizarre twist of fate he worked for a Berlin agency linked to a Reading record label, Cat Records. So we started to play regularly in Germany. This photo was on day 2 after staying in a hotel for russian workers on the Polish Border. So yes the sign is in Russian and it was cold.(PU) |
A trip to France and another gig in Dunkerque. People dont seem to play folk music or juggle on ferries anymore do they?

le Dyck in Dunkerque was amazing for hospitlaity (Merci Dennis!) From there we got our first chance to play over the border in Belgium at a club in a small village called Dranouter on a Monday night. Surely nobody would come we thought. How wrong we were, how different to England. Dranouter is host to the biggest folk festival in Belgium and suddenly it seemed that everyone in Flanders knew who we were. |
The Abbey Ruins and Water Fest in Reading. A low key music festival that we ran for three years but sadly it had to be the same weekend as Glastonbury so the numbers were always low. And we could then only play at Glastonbury on the Sunday night. (Evening Post) |
But we did play and had some wonderful
times |
A Miner's Benefit in Slough, the night Damian first heard Steve Hunt sing "Head, Heart and the Hand" Byt his time Tony Lyons had joined us and the band following was getting into splashier outfits. It was time for us to record our first CD album with Martin Rushent. "Burning Boats" |
